Class W2a 715. The Dawn of the Dead.

At Veyangoda

The newly repowered Class W2a 715 Diesel Hydraulic locomotive rolled out from Ratmalana railway workshops on 6th August 2015.

This locomotive is completely different from the W2 class. Class W locomotives had a Paxman Ventura V16 diesel engine (prime mover) while the W2a has been fitted with a Paxman Valenta V12 engine. Other than that the controlling system of W2a is a much more advanced electric control system than the traditional control system of Class W2.
