Special train hauled by Ontario departing Colombo.
A special train ran from Colombo Fort to Jaffna for the Class M2 Diamond Jubilee yesterday(19) at 12.30. This train was hauled by the first locomotive of Class M2 batch numbered 569 which is also known as “Ontario”.
Locomotive left the Running Shed, Dematagoda after the religious doings & decorations. “Ontario” was decorated & repainted to celebrate this milestone & to strengthen the bond between Sri Lankan & Canadian governments.
The staff of the running shed traveled in this special train & the train stopped only at Anuradhapura before Jaffna. Religious rites were done at the Sri Maha Bodhiya yesterday & rites at Nagadeepa will be done today.
Class M2 locomotives arrived Sri Lanka under the Colombo Plan project aided by the Canadian Government in 1964.
